I love fairy tales, even the Disney-fied ones, but the old ones are just completely warped and utterly fascinating in their own way. The Victorians prettied them up a little bit, and then modern audiences, where good heavens we can't possibly have Big Bird live in a place that looks like a real inner city street because it might shock children and scar them, have tried to sanitize them to the point where they're almost unrecognizable.
