Truthfully, I don't move much in comics; my experience with this is only bits of Buffy season 8 and Sandman, if that can be called a comic. I do remember the furor over the Mary Jane statuette with her washing Spiderman's suit while being ridiculously scantily clad, which I did find disgusting. That could certainly be part of why Whedon made the choice he did with the Trio.
