Happy 2011!

Yup, almost wrote 2010, so the traditional can't-write-the-year-right-until-March thing continues. :)
Yuletide has been revealed, and I did write one big fic and one little treat. The treat was Under the Sea, a Little Mermaid (1988) fic. To be honest, I intended to title it Above the Sea, but I didn't catch the mistake until after it was already being viewed, so I left it as is.
The longer fic was Shadows of the Past, a Dungeons and Dragons cartoon fic that includes Eric/Diana (along with a load of other pairings, all pretty much canon). I included a suggested listening list of songs from 1983 or before (with two exceptions, one from '84 and one from '86) with each chapter. For the heck of it, here's a list of the songs and links to them on Youtube since I know at least four of them are pretty hard to find.
Chapter 1: After the End
Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road – Elton John
Kids in America – Kim Wilde
Suffer the Children – Tears for Fears (the song Laroux sampled for "Bulletproof" this year)
Chapter 2: School’s in
Another Brick in the Wall – Pink Floyd specifically, Part 2
Flashdance – Irene Cara
She’s Got a Way – Billy Joel
Chapter 3: Should Auld Aquaintance Be Forgot
Beat It – Michael Jackson
Pac-Man Fever – Buckner and Garcia
Let’s Dance – David Bowie Was there any roller skating rink in the 80s that didn't have this on heavy rotation?
Mr. Roboto – Styx Or this, for that matter?
Hello – Lionel Richie
Princes of the Universe - Queen Okay, so there are princesses of the universe (or Realm) here too, but I think it captured the spirit of the thing.
Chapter 4: Return to the Realm
Say Goodbye to Hollywood – Billy Joel
Man’s Road – America One of the very hard to find ones from The Last Unicorn soundtrack, and frankly a really pretty song.
The Flight of Dragons – Don McLean This one is pretty near impossible to find.
Chapter 5: The Shadow Left Behind
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic – Police
Owner of a Lonely Heart – Yes
Separate Ways – Journey
Time (Clock of the Heart) – Culture Club I think this is actually the 1980s personified. How exactly did we never even suspect Boy George of being gay? I mean, really?
Chapter 6: Gifts and Goodbyes
Abracadabra – Steve Miller Band
October – U2
Edge of Seventeen – Stevie Nicks
Chapter 7: Predators and Prey
Hungry Like the Wolf – Duran Duran
Eye of the Tiger – Survivor I dare you not to start shifting your neck back and forth/shadow boxing.
Hard to Say I’m Sorry – Chicago
Chapter 8: Afraid of the Dark
Rainbow in the Dark – Dio
Pressure – Billy Joel In the dictionary next to "videos: see 1980s"
In the Air Tonight – Phil Collins Ditto. The heck?
Chapter 9: If It Worked for Cadmus
I’m Still Standing – Elton John See Boy George above.
Private Eyes – Hall and Oates
Cecilia – Simon and Garfunkle For the record, I worked at Arbor Drugs in the mid-90s, and they really did have Muzak of this played on trumpets and a tuba. I had to hear it at least ten times a day every day for an entire summer.
Chapter 10: Sick at Heart
Finale – Dark Crystal soundtrack Another very hard to find one. The section I was thinking of was specifically the chant around Kira's resurrection.
Total Eclipse of the Heart – Bonnie Tyler In the context, this is actually a sad song. The video, I grant you, is... accidentally amusing.
In the Sea - America Another in the nearly impossible to find group, but an incredibly beautiful song, and I think it does fit the mood here.
Chapter 11: Nightfall
Sweet Dreams Are Made of This – Eurythmics
Every Breath You Take – The Police
Eye in the Sky – Alan Parsons Project Take that, Lady Antebellum.
Chapter 12: The Shadow Strikes
Eyes without a Face – Billy Idol I admit, this is really more about the title than the lyrics, but it does sort of fit.
Screaming in the Night - Krokus
I Want to Know What Love Is – Foreigner
Chapter 13: Meetings and Farewells
You Can Do Magic – America
Two Hearts Beat as One – U2
Solsbury Hill – Peter Gabriel One of my very favorite songs.
Chapter 14: Twelve Years Later…
Waiting for a Girl Like You – Foreigner
Glory of Love – Peter Cetera
I Melt with You – Modern English
Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey
A happy Yuletide to all, and to all a good 2011!
