Fall TV: What I'm digging

I don't watch an enormous amount of TV, but the things I do watch, I tend to be really into. Hence, my reviews of series thus far:
First things first: Limitless. This is the one dud in the season thus far. My uncle was really, really gung ho about it, so I did watch the first episode. It just felt... stupid. I don't have difficulty believing that a pill could possibly make people smarter, or that the government might somehow use it then discover it's killing agents, but it just feels very contrived.
Doctor Who is a bit of a problem for me. Somehow, my DVR didn't record a good portion of last season. I have no idea why, but it kept recording only shows in reruns and nothing new, so I mistakenly thought the season was over when it wasn't. Consequently, I'm rather clueless about what the heck is going on. I think I'm going to cave and read online summaries for the ones I missed to get back up to speed. Capaldi is growing on me, though, largely because the actor seems very nice.
Agents of SHIELD surprised me. Knowing this is a Whedon show, I fully expected Fitz not to be able to get to Simmons, endless heartbreak, a season's worth of attempts to open the portal again, etc., but holy cow, he actually got her. I was stunned. Really pleased, but stunned. I was also thrilled because I'd rather not be able to guess exactly what the show is going to dish at me. I hate Ward passionately. I love that Coulson has the ax hanging on his office wall. Daisy (I, like Phil, keep wanting to revert to Skye) has grown enough in the last two years that I actually like her now. I also found out the hard way again to not trust my DVR as it keeps cutting off the last couple minutes of the show. Thankfully, I did figure out how to add two minutes, so that should fix that problem.
The Muppets is kind of like my own personal guardian angel petitioned the powers that be to somehow put this show on. I am an unabashed Muppet lover. Seeing the guys again is great, and every single episode I do find myself literally laughing out loud at least half a dozen times in a half hour show. Fozzie is a total standout here, and I adore him. I really like Yolanda. Chip the creepy IT guy is scarier than any of the monsters. Kermit and Gonzo are right on point as well. And whoever is writing the Swedish chef's stuff is having so much fun. There are two points I'm not crazy about, though. One is Janis. Her voice is completely off. I know she has a new performer, but it's not even close, and it's throwing me badly. The other, sadly, is Miss Piggy. She's getting written as a one-note diva, and while she very proudly is a diva, there aren't any other sides to personality in this, and she's coming off as just a mean, terrible, spoiled person, er, pig, as opposed to one that does have people and things she cares about and is highly intelligent and driven. She's just fighting with everyone, and that's getting a bit old. I'm hoping that glitch clears up, though, since, holy cow, Uncle Deadly is a freaking Muppet Tim Gunn in this.
Then, there's Gotham. Holy heckfire, people. Jerome is dead. Cameron Monaghan was really amazing in that role, and I did not see that coming. Like everyone else, I thought he was the Joker. And he was, but that horrible, chilling scene at the end when we start to realize evil is everywhere, in so many people, any of whom can become someone like him, creating a legacy of insane idiocy? That was intense. The kid who plays Bruce is still wonderful, as is Alfred. I'm missing Robin Lord Taylor as he hasn't had much to do this season, and again, he's great. The really good thing about this show is it's populated with excellent performers. I'm curious to see where they'll take the season. Except, obviously, Fish isn't dead. Duh.
