DYA letter
Oct. 15th, 2012 09:29 pmOkay, once I actually get my signup submitted, my letter is going here:
Hi! So, apparently, you've just gotten my Yuletide wishlist. The first thing I want you to know is I really do love all three fandoms, so pick whatever one you like. I won't be disappointed. All of my fic is now currently up at the AO3, and you'll see there's quite a bit in there. I'm fine with het, slash, gen, whatever. I like comedy, drama, angst, introspective character pieces, missing scenes, pretty much whatever you want to play with. I would prefer not to receive any underage sexual situations or anything involving incest. As far as rating is concerned, I'm fine with anything up through M, but if you want to do E, that's okay too.
So, fandom-type specifics:
The Glass Menagerie
I requested Laura and Amanda here since, of course, we basically know what happened to Tom later on, but what happened to the two of them, besides the obvious fact that they're no longer living in that apartment, is a whole other issue. I know Williams based Laura somewhat on his sister who ended up in an asylum, but that doesn't necessarily have to be Laura's fate. I'm curious how they ended up, did they find a place, did Laura ever recover from Jim, did they ever see Tom again, how did they manage to live, and any other questions that you might conjure up.
"Abraham's Daughter"
Like I mentioned in the sign up form, I am fascinated by the ambiguity of who is saying what here, and even some of the word choices. The angel cried for the slaughter; that can be taken two ways. One line is argued about as to what it even is: some here "then when she saw her raised for the slaughter" which doesn't actually make much sense in context of the song (even if it does in context of HG), while others hear "then with the sword upraised for the slaughter" which makes more sense but isn't usually listed as the actual lyric. What's up there? Finally, the whole "How dare this child defy her father?" Angel? Father speaking of himself in the third person? "You better let young Isaac go." Daughter? Angel? Father speaking to angel because he was always unwilling to do this? Another character entirely? Basically, I'm curious what it's like in this literally nameless girl's world, how she got herself a bow, what her relationship is with her brother and father, what the angel's role is in all this, and what prompted her rebellion. Background, missing scene, keep the ambiguity, anything you want to do.
Gunsmoke
I realized how much I adored Miss Kitty's character during an episode from I think the third or fourth season when we see a woman being mugged in an alleyway. The set-up is obvious. Of course gigantic Matt Dillon will save the poor, unknown woman from the thief, right? Wrong. Into scene swings Kitty, maybe reaching this guy's armpit, pulling him off the girl, yelling in his face to get lost, and saving the damsel in distress all by her lonesome. For a series that had the common fault of a lot of Westerns of making practically every female character either evil or helpless, Kitty is like a creature from another planet. She's smart, she's funny, she's independent, she's three dimensional, she has friends and a business (regardless of what that business was or wasn't, which isn't ever made clear), she's just plain great. Anything you'd like to do with her I'd love to see: have her save the day, talk with Doc or Chester or Matt, something funny or angsty or a mix, her background, her future, etc., etc., whatever works for you.
Thank you in advance, and I'll see you on the 25th. :)
