In 2013, I wrote a total of 5 fics. Yikes. This year I went back up again quite a bit, up to 14.
January
The Snow Qu(ite-Nutty-Aren’t-They?)een - Harry Potter - Muggle Fairy Tales Are Mad series (second part, as this one was quite long, is here).
Disgrace of the Daleks - A Doctor Who crossover with, of all things, Sesame Street.
The Elves and the Sh(ocking, Just Shocking!)oemaker - Harry Potter - Another Muggle fairy tale
February
The Princess and the P(lease Say You’re Making This Up)ea - Harry Potter - Muggle Fairy tale (which turns into a House-Elf rights discussion, of course)
March, April, and May - nothing
June
Shadowed Lives Chapter 18: Cake - Harry Potter, Draco/Hermione (gen-ish) - It's Hermione's birthday. What could possibly go wrong on top of the Astronomy Tower, a place that always has remarkably good luck for Draco, right?
The Emperor’s New Clo(se-to-Bonkers)thes - Harry Potter - Yes, another Muggle fairy tale, and yes, before you ask, I have a very long list of more to play with.
July
The Gingerbread M(an, What Are You People On?)an - Harry Potter - Yes, another one.
August
The Little R(ight Bunch of Nutters You Lot Are)ed Hen - Harry Potter - Seriously, I have at least a dozen more ideas on these.
September - nothing
October
Bluebe(reasonable, now!)ard - Harry Potter - In which Ron is very disturbed by Muggle courtship.
November - spent writing a Yuletide fic I eventually gave up on as it was too freaking enormous to finish in time... I may go back to that one at some point
December
National Treasure: British Edition - National Treasure - Ben helps Riley look for an engagement ring. Of course, Tiffany's will not do. Riley/Abigail
Magic Jammies, Take Two - The Greatest American Hero - Pam gets a visit from the aliens. Bill is not amused.
Somethins - West Side Story - "What do you expect to feel?" "I don't know. Something." Post-canon.
New Tune, Same Fiddle - Fiddler on the Roof - Tevye talks to his old Friend in the New Country.
Desdemona's Choice - Othello - A Shakespearean sonnet written from Desdemona's point of view prior to marrying Othello. Poor kid is kind of clueless.
So, a total of 14 fics with the following fandoms (adds up to 15 due to a crossover):
8 Harry Potter
1 Doctor Who
1 Sesame Street
1 National Treasure
1 The Greatest American Hero
1 West Side Story
1 Fiddler on the Roof
1 Othello
So, what does this tell me? Again, 2013 had all of 5 fics, two of them written in December, and 2012 had 9, so this is the best I've done since 2011 (which had 18). I did still have a couple dead zones in there, most notably in the spring, when admittedly I was doing a lot of reading, particularly for my job (Goodreads tracks me at 119 this year, which is fairly large, I'd say). That, and I was still adjusting to meds at that point. I think part of what I've learned is that, like in a lot of things I try to do, I get stressed out in the planning stage and sort of stab myself in the foot before I even start because I don't think I'll be able to do it. Once I actually say, okay, I am taking the time to do this, and if it doesn't come out perfect, that's still better than doing nothing, it usually turns out at least okay.
So the moral of the story is just write and enjoy it.
