I remember in college about 20 years ago, sitting in the coffee shop with one of my good friends, who happened to be a gay man, talking about what we thought we'd be doing later with our lives. Most of the stuff we talked about didn't actually come to pass, but I remember him saying, "I hope I meet the love of my life and we settle down and can adopt kids." And I asked him if he thought gay marriage would ever come about, and he said, "No. There's too many people who would block it. We'll never have that happen," and he looked so incredibly sad.
I am so, so happy he was wrong.
God bless all the happy couples.
