Fic Year in Review 2021

bookishwenchSomething weird happened this year. I wrote. I cannot begin to explain how pleasantly surprised I was by this since my output for years has been, well, pathetic, and that's how this year started, but around mid-summer, something clicked and, well, there was fic. I ended up writing 34 things, my third highest total ever, behind 2009 (44) and 2008 (40). Overwhelmingly, this is in MCU fandom, which I've played with a little in the past, but nothing like this. Anyway, here it is, the year in review:
January-June - nothing
July
Sif's Heart - Chapter 1 - Sif's path to becoming a warrior has obstacles, often her own comrades, but when a group of them carries things too far, Loki's support and love are her greatest weapons.
Sif's Heart - Chapter 2 - "When the ale had come to their table at the tavern, Loki and Sif had clinked their tankards in celebration of her victory, but he knew she had claimed another one, whether she knew it yet or not, over his heart. "

Sif's Heart - Chapter 3 - "The healing room’s doors had been closed for what felt like weeks.">
Sif's Heart - Chapter 4 - "The next morning, Loki was up on time, which for him was early.">

Sif's Heart - Chapter 8 - "For the second morning in a row, Loki woke with the dawn stabbing at his closed eyelids." COMPLETE, HOLY COW, I FINISHED SOMETHING.
Muggle Fairy Tales Are Mad: The Steadfast Tin Soldier - "Slytherin’s birthplace really needs to work on its marketing technique. There aren’t any souvenir stands, no postcards, not even a tearoom with horribly overpricedstale sandwiches. Anyone would think it didn’t want to be found."

Five Times Loki Cut Sif's Hair and One Time He Didn't Chapter 5 - Out of the Ashes - "She stood outside the door of Loki’s room with her hand ready to knock, but she couldn’t quite make herself do it."
Five Times Loki Cut Sif's Hair and One Time He Didn't Chapter 6 - Stay - "The palest light was beginning to spread across the eastern sky." HOLY COW, ANOTHER THING I ACTUALLY COMPLETED
The Scent of Lavender From What If...? - When the gods wish to punish us, they answer our prayers. Loki never wanted this.
The Pain of Memory From What If...? - Sif no longer had any love for Loki, but there are punishments she would not wish even on the damned. "The Scent of Lavender" from Sif's perspective.

Falling - Loki's fall leaves him with nightmares, but he's not the only one.

Marked - War and Chaos: one cannot exist without the other.
Responsibilities of a Captor - Loki was not used to the feeling of his conscience bothering him, but every time he looked at Eric Selvig, it did.
Movie Night Night 1: Miracle on 34th Street - I have no idea where this came from. The Avengers (and Loki, for some reason) gather in Tony's home theater to watch holiday movies.
Movie Night National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - "There is no part of this movie that is not perfect."

A Cold Autumn - One of the sadder things I've written. Loki visits his dying ex-lover in 1980s New York.
Movie Night The Nutcracker - Bruce was eating a cupcake iced with red and white stripes with a peppermint Star Brite on top as the credits rolled.
Movie Night Elf - “He’s an imbecile,” Loki said, his hand to his forehead as though fending off a migraine as the end credits ran.
Stuck Loki waits to welcome Tony home after battle, but the suit is experiencing some technical problems.
Movie Night The Muppets Christmas Carol - “That was… surprisingly close to the book,” Steve said, looking a little disturbed. “Except Dickens wasn’t a rat.”
Movie Night A Christmas Story - When the Bifrost opened on the roof of Stark Tower, the rest of the Avengers had been expecting Thor and Loki to arrive laden down with Asgardian delicacies, and they hadn’t been disappointed. But what they hadn’t been expecting was the third figure who was carrying a large platter piled high with fruit and nuts.
Movie Night White Christmas - "I don't get it. Is the inn saved or not?"
Movie Night Frozen - If anyone had asked them later, all of them would loudly deny being the one to come up with the idea, but however it began, by the time Frozen’s end credits were playing, the small audience in Tony’s home theatre had somehow formed a braiding line.
Movie Night Christmas in Connecticut - “Sweet bliss of the universe, this is the single most spectacular item of nourishment it has ever been my undivided pleasure to consume!”
Movie Night It's a Wonderful Life - Christmas Eve at Tony’s penthouse started when the sun went down and the lights on the Christmas tree burst into multicolored perfection.
Watched - It's a Wonderful Life fic - Turnstall has silently pushed Potter's wheelchair for decades, but no one ever seems to notice him. There's a very good reason for that.
The End Is the Beginning - What If... Ultron Won? - Yuletide fic for Marcelo - The dead world was less quiet than Natasha had anticipated.
Whew. This is one thing I'm very happy about this year.
